Waste Collection

Waste Management is important to the Berri Barmera Council and remains as a key strategic focus to continue to improve on.

Changes in legislation have required dramatic changes in the way that Councils across Australia process rubbish, in particular the closing of old outdated rubbish dumps and the introduction of waste transfer stations with a focus on recycling of materials.

Private enterprise manages the Waste Transfer Facility for our district, as well as the collection and disposal of waste from our district.

Kerbside Rubbish Collection

Each residential township property in the Berri Barmera District is issued with a set of waste bins (3 bin system) being: 240-litre (green),  140-litre (red) & 240-litre (yellow) by Council.

Council commissions Solo Resource Recovery to collect your rubbish on a weekly basis.

For more information please contact:
Solo on 08 8295 5077 or Berri Barmera Council on 8582 1922

It is important to note that there are weight restrictions for your collection, your bin can weigh no more than:

- Red bin - 60kg

- Green and Yellow - 80kg.

Disposing of Mattresses

Mattresses are not part of Council’s kerbside collection; however, they can be taken to Cleanaway site on Hoskin Road, Berri and disposed of at a cost. Once received, the components are separated; the springs are sent to metal recyclers for reuse and the foam goes into landfill.

If you wish, you can separate a mattress at home.

You will need to take the springs into Riverland Resource Recovery Facility (there is no charge for this), you can then dispose of the foam by placing in your red bin over a period of a few weeks.
