Being born in the Riverland and residing in a rural area has given me the insight to the needs of both town and rural communities. I am married with three grown children and their families working casually for the Education Department through local schools. I enjoy cooking - making the delicious sweets for Bella Lavender; bush walking and the environment; caring for others, a member of the Meri Bunch volunteers Riverland Regional Hospital, Riverland Suicide Prevention Network and being involved in church activities.
Following the last elections in 2018, I have now represented the people in our district on the Berri Barmera Council for 23 years, 4 years previously as Deputy Mayor and now being elected once again as deputy Mayor for the next 12 months in the new term. It has been a valuable experience and I have committed myself to acting honestly, fairly and positively for the people in all situations.
Passionately dedicated to our district I have a strong history of community involvement continuously supporting local fundraising events and civic activities. My experience includes finance, governance, planning and development and education serving on many Council subcommittees including both Berri and Barmera Improvement Committees, Audit Committee, Strategy, Assets and Major Projects, Environmental and Sustainability, Lake Bonney Caring Committee, Cemetery Advisory Committee and also represented Council on the Riverland Regional Assessment Panel for the past 12 years.
As a Council on the move it is essential for continuous growth in this magnificent area and Council will work together with the Berri Barmera community through Council's Strategic Plan to provide quality service by promoting our wine and fruit industry through community events and tourism, protecting our precious river, providing recreational facilities, improving health services, encourage industrial and new development, beautify our towns, rural areas and continually upgrade footpaths and roads to improve the living and working standards for all ages and cultures in our district.
