2014 Council Elections

Congratulations to Mayor Peter Hunt who has been provisionally elected unopposed as Mayor. Council has received 11 nominations for the eight positions of area councillor. Elections will be conducted by postal voting. The 11 candidates (in ballot order) are: 1. Linc Gore 2. Andrew Kassebaum 3. David Waterman 4. Trevor Scott 5. Tom Towle 6. Mike Fuller 7. Margaret Evans 8. Kingson Selvaraj 9. David Andrew 10. Stephen Lynch 11. Rhonda Centofanti. Current Councillors, Bruce Richardson and Vicki Beech, did not seek re election, with Trevor Chapple and Michelle Campbell resigning prior to the election.

Waste Collection Service Disruptions

Transpacific have confirmed they are resuming bin collection services in our area and will continue to work over the weekend to clear the back log. Priorities will be domestic collections and the general waste or red bin with green waste or green bins to follow. Continue to leave your bins out for collection. Thank you for your ongoing patience and understanding.

Marina Drive Berri Closed

Due to the Berri Boat Ramp Upgrade the Allan Thurmer Recreational Trail is closed at Marina Drive Berri and no access is available to the boat ramp area until further notice.

Lake Bonney Name Consultation

Council has been advised that the Minister for Transport and Infrastructure is seeking public comment on a proposal to dual name Lake Bonney, Riverland as LAKE BONNEY RIVERLAND / BARMERA. Submissions in writing regarding this proposal may be lodged with the Surveyor-General, G.P.O. Box 1354, Adelaide, S.A. 5001. The submission period will close on 31 August. Martin Bend Camping Ground

17 June 2014
Martin Bend has evolved over the past few years and with its increase in popularity there has been an increase in maintenance costs to Council. As of July 1 Council will introduce a $5 contribution per night to stay at Martin Bend, this 'user pays' fee will result in Campers at the site partially contributing to the ongoing of costs of services at the venue. An honesty box will be installed at the entrance where people can pay their contribution.

Berri Boat Ramp

Road Resealing

Council would like to advise residents that Contractors are in the area undertaking our resealing program for 2013/14 . This work will be undertaken over the next few weeks at it is hoped that disruptions are kept to a minimum. Please take care while travelling through these work zones.

Hazardous Waste Drop-off day

A FREE household and farm hazardous waste drop off day is being conducted this Saturday 10th May between 10am and 3pm. See attached flyer for accepted (and non accepted) items. Drop off location is the Monash Resource Recovery Facility on Hoskin Road, Monash.

Delayed Waste Collection Reminder

Easter a Good Time to use Free WIFI

"Council supplied free wifi at Berri and Barmera will be in high use by visitors over the Easter Break and ANZAC Day breaks “ said Council CEO David Beaton. The service is available in Vaughan Tce and the riverfront near the Visitor Information Centre in Berri and Barwell Avenue and the lakefront in Barmera. The service has proven popular by tourists and visitors to the towns.

Barmera Library School Holiday Program

Street Light Faults

Council is charged considerable money for street lighting every month to illuminate roads, footpaths and parks areas. The cost for street lights is based on number of lights and their globe type, so if you see one that is not working, we are still being charged for it. Please ring SA Power Networks on 131261 to report a faulty light that isn’t working or even one that is dirty and not as bright as it should be

Berri Boat Ramp Project

After receiving matching funds up to $320,000 from the State Government through the SA Boating Facilities Fund the Berri Boat Ramp project at the Berri Marina is set to commence works in late April with construction estimated to continue for 4 months.

Green Waste Reminder

30 March 2014
Council would like to remind residents that the placement of waste in the correct bin is of the utmost importance. Any foreign material included in the GREEN waste bin means that the load can not be mulched, thus making it unusable. Random green bin inspections will be undertaken to identify persistent offenders which may result in the resident being excluded from any future services.

My Local Services App launched

The My Local Services App which delivers local information, kerbside waste collection reminders and provides a report it feature for residents has now been launched. Berri Barmera Council residents using iOS or android mobile devices will be able to download the application and commence using as of today

Monash Temporary Waste Transfer Station- Permanent Closure

$320,000 for Berri Boat Ramp

Berri Swimming Pool Opening

The Berri Pool is now open just in time for the warm weather. Please note that the toddler and junior pools will still be out of action for a week to 10 days awaiting the completion of a new filtration plant. Sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause.

Murray Man Triathlon

With the Murray Man Triathlon being held this weekend the competition should be fierce. As you can appreciate the course covers a lot of distance and as such, extensive road closures will be in place.

Fire Danger Season

Berri Visitor Information Centre to stay put

At Tuesdays Council Meeting it was agreed that the proposed move of the Berri Visitor Information Centre services to the Berri Resort Hotel would not be pursued. This decision was based on significant feedback received in writing and in person at the recent public meeting.

Waste / Recycling (3 bin townships / 2 bin rural) system)

The Berri Barmera Council will be introducing kerbside recycling from January 2013 with a three bin system in the town areas and a two bin system for residences in rural areas of the council district. Council is hoping to divert 50 - 60 per cent of what currently goes to landfill with green waste used to rehabilitate the Monash landfill site. The bins will be delivered to premises during December 2012. A booklet that explains the type of waste that can be placed in each of the bins, collection days and other information will be delivered to residences during December and also available at the Council Office in Berri, the Barmera Library & Customer Service Centre and the Berri Library & Information Centre. Berri District Centre Car Parking

3 September 2012
Berri Barmera Council has recently engaged an engineer to undertake a review of the car parking provided within the Berri Town Centre. The survey was undertaken to assess the usage of the existing car park situation and to identify any strategies that may be useful in helping to alleviate congestion within the town centre. This review has identified that although car parking is an issue, one of the major causes of congestion is the overstay of vehicles in timed car parks and the use of disabled car park spaces by unauthorised people. In order to help combat this issue while further measures continue to be investigated, council will seek to enforce the timed zones as much as practicable. Please take note of the restrictions when parking to avoid receiving an expiation.

Berri Art Concepts Report

The Berri Traders have engaged artists to develop a public art program for the town of Berri through a process of consultation and research. Potential sites and concepts will be identified and the involvement of specific groups in the process identified. The area concerned is between Worman Street to the river, from Vaughan Tce in the east to Crawford Tce and Bookpurnong Rd in the west.
