The project supports the concept that engaging in 2 hours of art per week can significantly improve mental health and wellbeing, whilst raising awareness and encouraging our community to kick start conversations in an open and safe environment.

New home for Community Transport officially opens 20 October 2017
Today the new Riverland office for the Red Cross was officially opened in Berri.
It is great to see that Red Cross have moved into our region (30 Kay Avenue, Berri) and that they will be providing a range of services including the Community Transport Services that were formally provided by Council..
Proposed Barmera Off Leash Dog Park 25 September 2017
Council is seeking feedback for potential sites in Barmera for an Off Leash Dog Park. Two sites have been identified through internal consultation with the Barmera Town Beautification Committee and have been recommended for consideration.
• Bruce Oval (parallel with Scott Ave) and
• Johnny Baynes Park, Amy Street, Barmera.
These have been identified as locations that provide accessibility, car parking, amenities and a suitable dimension for the park.
The feedback forms must be returned prior to Friday 13 October 2017
Funding success for the proposed Berri Riverfront Wharf project 17 October 2017
The Minister for Transport and Infrastructure, Hon Stephen Mullighan MP recently announced that the Berri Barmera Council’s proposed Berri Riverfront Wharf has been successful in securing nearly $600,000 in funding for the $1.199M project.

Exterior Painting of Bonney Theatre 1 March 2017
The exterior painting of the Bonney Theatre, Barmera Soldiers Memorial Hall and façade of the Barmera Library will be commencing 2 March and will take approx. 4 weeks to complete. During this time, fencing and bunting will be used to ensure the safety of residents and contractors.
Please be aware that access to the library will be through the rear entrance for 2 and 3 March.

Open Space Funding Application for Section of Riverview Drive 17 October 2017
Council has recently lodged an application for funding from the Department of Planning Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) for a redevelopment of area around the Vietnam War Memorial and Visitor Information Centre at Berri. Successful projects will have funding announced in the middle of this year. Should the project proceed it will see Riverview Drive intersection with Vaughan Terrace narrowed and the public areas on either side of the road widened for both everyday use and events. In particular the Vietnam War Memorial is located very close to the kerbs of Vaughan Terrace and Riverview Drive. In consultation with Riverland Vietnam Veterans a design has been developed creating significantly more space around the Memorial for events, quiet contemplation and paying respect.

Storm Clean up 11 November 2016
Please note that teams are working throughout our district to remove fallen trees from roads, however we need to advise that most will be just cut and moved to the side of the road until we can return to pick up over the next three days.
We are keen to hear from you, on 8582 1922, if there are any other trees fallen that are blocking public access. Note that when you come across a fallen tree that has already been cut, then this has already been registered with Council for future pick up..
Please take care when travelling around by car (or foot) over the next few days, and resist parking under trees where ever possible.

Dementia Friendly Community Action Plan Launched 1 November 2016
Dementia is a National Health Priority with a significant increase in the number of people living with the disease projected over the next two decades and no immediate expectation of a breakthrough in science providing a cure.
Council has recognised that in collaboration with both State and Federal Governments, Local Government has a meaningful role in addressing the needs of people living in the community with Dementia and their families and carers. The action plan outlines a number of activities that Council can assist with in supporting those impacted by the affects of Dementia.

Dog and Cat Management Bill passed 7 July 2016
On 7 July 2016 State Parliament passed new laws relating to ownership of cats and dogs. It is important to know that the changes do not come into force immediately. Murray Cod Fingerlings 17 February 2016
Yesterday, thousands of Murray Cod fingerlings were released into the River Murray at Kingston on Murray, in a bid to boost the fish species.
One of the largest native freshwater fish in Australia, the Murray Cod's population has been seriously depleted due to environmental degradation and past over-fishing of the waterway. This stock enhancement trial is an important step in ensuring that there is a healthy population and sustainable recreational fishery.
The Murray Cod Stock Enhancement Project is led by PIRSA Fisheries and Aquaculture, with a working group of representatives from SARDI Aquatic Sciences, the Department of Environment Water and Natural Resources, RecFish SA and industry experts.
