Not So Fantastic Plastic

Not So Fantastic Plastic

Soft plastics that can be scrunched into a ball should not go in recycle bins! Why? Unfortunately this type of recyclable material gets caught in the recycling machinery. What do we do with our soft plastics then?

Unfortunately, you could increase landfill by putting them in your red bin.  However, there is great news.  You can recycle them through the REDcycle program through participating supermarkets (ie Coles in Berri). http://www.redcycle.net.au/where-to-redcycle/

What products can you recycle through this program?

  • Plastic shopping bags
  • Bread, rice, pasta, lolly and cereal bags
  • Biscuit packs (but not the trays)
  • Frozen food bags
  • Newspaper wrap
  • Bubble wrap
  • Dry cleaning bags
  • Fruit and veg bags and netting
  • Toilet paper and similar product packaging
  • Old green (and other re-usable) bags
