Notice of Proposed Cats By-Law

Notice of Proposed Cats By-Law

Pursuant to section 249 of the Local Government Act 1999, notice is hereby given that the Council proposes to adopt a Cats By-Law to limit the number of cats kept on premises and for the management and control of cats in the Council’s area, including proposed containment provisions.

Late 2017 Berri Barmera Council released a draft Cat Management By-Law for public consultation. The By-Law proposed registration, limits on cat numbers and offences related to cats causing a nuisance on neighbouring properties. Following public consultation Council resolved to further amend the proposed By-Law to include containment of cats between the hours 10pm and 6am. The revised draft By-Law is now released for further public consultation closing on Friday February 9th 2018. Council encourages residents to review the draft By-Law which can viewed at the link below and provide comments on the provisions. A final decision on the By-Law will be made by Council in February with provisions to be introduced gradually over 2018.  Your views on the amended By-Law are very important, they influence Council’s final decision.

Written submissions are invited from the public in respect of the proposed By-Law by using the feedback/submission form and should be directed to the Manager Environmental Services/Major Projects, PO Box 229, Berri 5343, or emailed to bbc@bbc.sa.gov.au by close of business on Friday 9 February 2018.
