Council has an obligation pursuant to section 101A of the Development Act 1993 to establish a strategic planning and development policy committee.
The functions of this committee are outlined as follows:
- to provide advice to the council in relation to the extent to which the council's strategic planning and development policies accord with the Planning Strategy; and
- to assist the council in undertaking strategic planning and monitoring directed at achieving-
2.1 - orderly and efficient development within the area of the council; and
2.2 - high levels of integration of transport and land-use planning; and
2.3 - relevant targets set out in the Planning Strategy within the area of the council; and
2.4 - the implementation of affordable housing policies set out in the Planning Strategy within the area of the council; and
2.5 - other outcomes of a prescribed kind (if any); and
- to provide advice to the council in relation to strategic planning and development policy issues when the council is preparing-
3.1 - a Strategic Directions Report; or
3.2 - a Development Plan Amendment proposal; and
- other functions (other than functions relating to development assessment or compliance) assigned to the committee by the council.
To assist with these functions the committee will be provided with advice from the Chief Executive Officer, Council staff and contractors or consultants as applicable.
The provisions of the Local Government Act 1999 apply in relation to the committee established for this purpose.
