Lake Bonney Caring For Country Management Plan
The Lake Bonney Barmera Caring for Country Management Plan has been created to support the ongoing management of Lake Bonney lands under the intended joint care, control and management of RMMAC and the Berri Barmera Council.
The Plan has been developed to identify outcomes for the protection, preservation, access and use of Lake Bonney. The key objectives are to further the protection, preservation and promotion of the First Peoples of the River Murray and Mallee Region cultural heritage, recognise and promote the importance of a healthy environment and a healthy lake for the First Peoples and the community, prevent development or disturbance from occurring on or near Significant Areas of Aboriginal Cultural Heritage, promote and support the active involvement of the First Peoples in management in the area and contribute to the capacity building, employment and economic opportunities for First Peoples.
Council has been successful in securing funding support from the Federal Government to undertake works associated with the plan. These works will commence on the signing of the funding agreement. Council expects to be delivering key actions associated with the Plan within 3 years to meet funding requirements. Works identified include carpark upgrades, track rationalisation, tracks (cycling/walking), day visitor areas, vegetation management, pest and animal management, signage, campground improvements and engagement of indigenous rangers.
