Play Me I'm Yours
Play Me, I’m Yours is an artwork installation series created by British artist Luke Jerram. Reaching millions of people worldwide, more than 2000 street pianos have been installed by Luke and his team in over 65 cities across the globe, from Tokyo to New York and as far as Melbourne, bearing the simple instruction to ‘Play Me, I’m Yours’.
Located on streets, in public parks, markets and train stations the pianos are available for everyone to play and enjoy. Play Me, I’m Yours invites the public to engage with, activate and take ownership of their urban environment, and to share their love of music and the visual arts. Decorated by local artists and community groups, the street pianos create a place for exchange and an opportunity for people to connect.
Berri Barmera Council's inaugural "Play Me I'm Yours" piano was developed with Council working working with the Riverland Special School, together with local artist Kat Bell.
“The design is inspired by the beauty of our river, native wildlife and the joy and peace felt when spending time just taking it all in. The kids were great helpers. They got stuck in, worked quickly and did a great job painting lovely bright colours to bring the design to life. I can't wait to do more with them. They were such a joy to work with”, said Kat.
The recycled piano was lovingly placed down the Berri riverfront where anybody can come, sit down and have a tinkle on the ivories.
Students from Riverland Special School:
“I liked the yellow!”
“It was cool!”
“We liked the colours!”
“It was fun!”
“We want to play the piano!”
Three more pianos were donated and Kat has worked worked with Community Groups to complete those.
