Acknowledgement of Country

The Berri Barmera Council would like to acknowledge the First Peoples of the River Murray and Mallee Region, the Ngaiawang, Ngawait, Nganguruku, Erawirung, Ngintait, Ngaralte & Ngarkat people, the traditional owners of the lands and waters on which we live, work and play. We pay our respects to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who live in and visit our beautiful district.

Acknowledging Country at your event

The First Peoples of the River Murray and Mallee Region are the Traditional Owners of the River Murray area from the Victorian border to Morgan.

For our region the River Murray and Mallee Aboriginal Corporation is the prescribed body corporate (PBC) that has been established to manage and administer all matters on behalf of the First Peoples of the River Murray Mallee Region, it is their recommendation that the following Acknowledgement is used at events, meetings and functions:

" I would like to acknowledge the First Peoples of the River Murray and Mallee Region, the Ngaiawang, Ngawait, Nganguruku, Erawirung, Ngintait, Ngaralte & Ngarkat people, the traditional owners of the land on which we meet today and pay my respects to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are present today."
