Citizenship

Becoming an Australian citizen

A Citizenship Ceremony is a special event during which citizenship candidates take the pledge of allegiance to Australia and are officially pronounced Australian Citizens.

Berri Barmera Council conducts conferral ceremonies for approved Australian Citizenship applicants residing in the council area as required at the Principal Office in Berri and on Australia Day.  Ceremonies are arranged when the council is advised by the Department of Home Affairs that there are applicants available for conferral in the council area. Members of Parliament and Elected Members are also invited to attend.

Queries about citizenship applications, citizenship ceremonies and citizenship certificates can be addressed to the Department of Home Affairs by phone to 131880 or through the Department of Home Affairs website https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/
