Event of the Year Brothers in Arms
The Brothers in Arms commemoration, held in Berri on 29 March 2025, originated from an idea raised at a meeting of the Riverland Vietnam War Veterans. Members supported hosting a special event to unite Australian, Vietnamese and American veterans in recognition of the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War and the Fall of Saigon. The initiative brought together more than 100 allied veterans and their families to honour the service and sacrifice of those who defended South Vietnam.
Veterans travelled from across South Australia, interstate, the United States and Vietnam. Standing beneath the flags of all three nations, they shared a rare moment of collective reflection. The Riverland Vietnam Veterans Association was recognised as a 50th Anniversary Commemorative Partner of the United States of America, with speeches and the attendance of all three Riverland mayors highlighting strong community support and enduring bonds of mateship.
