Nominate a local volunteer group
Berri Barmera Council Mayor Ella Winnall said the initiative is designed to recognise the many volunteers who contribute their time and skills to local organisations.
“Volunteers really are the backbone of our community,” she said.
“They support events, emergency services, sporting clubs, community groups and so much more.
“National Volunteer Week is a great opportunity to personally thank the people who give their time to make our region stronger, more connected and a great place to live.”
Community members are invited to nominate local volunteer organisations for a surprise visit.
Several groups will then be randomly selected, with the Mayor, elected members and senior staff dropping in during the week with morning tea, afternoon tea or evening refreshments.
Visits may include sporting clubs, emergency services volunteers, service organisations, community groups and other volunteer-led initiatives.
Mayor Winnall said the pop-up format was intended to be a genuine way to say thanks in the places volunteers are doing their work.
“This is a small and meaningful way for our community to say thank you to people giving back all the time,” she said.
“It’s important to recognise the incredible work volunteers do every day without asking volunteers to take more time out to receive a thanks from us.
“We know many volunteers don’t seek recognition, but their contribution has a huge impact across our community.”
The visits will take place throughout National Volunteer Week from 18–24 May 2026, with selected organisations contacted directly to arrange suitable times.
Nominations closed Sunday, April 26.
