Glossop Streetscape

Turnbull Terrace and Anderson Terrace intersection at Glossop has for many years been a problem intersection as it retains water in a small rain event not to mention a large down pour.

Council has on several occasions addressed this intersection with the rightful owner (DIT) but have not seen any solutions for this intersection. Council had intended to over several years beautify the small towns within its area to make them more appeal and as a result Glossop was earmarked for the first of these beautification role outs.

With the existing problem with street water after a rain event and the need to beautify areas of Glossop it was decided to combine to two projects into one.

Council is now well advanced into the construction of the deep rock swale drainage system which has been placed on the Eastern side of Turnbull Terrace. These rock swales will also include areas for planting colourful low-lying shrubs which will compliment against the white drainage rock.

In future additions to this area it will include some trees and rest area, addressing both key issues of Stormwater and Beautification

Project Update - 5 December 2023

Works progressing well, rocks placed around the boundary of carpark space and bigger rocks placed in space between carpark and drain system for aesthetics.

Intersection, car park and road shoulder along Old Sturt Hwy was trimmed and prepped for sealing which is now also complete (seal works done by Inroads), line marking still to be completed on the shoulder.  Total area sealed was around 1400m2.

Islands (yellow rumble strips) to be re-installed in Turnbull Tce.

Tested water flow of intersection and newly installed spoon drain with water cart and all flows as expected.

Road verge in Turnbull still needs to be built up and sealed to create a water channel to spoon drain (heavy rains may cause shoulder erosion) location of trees to be planted (4 x London Planes). Seating & Bin yet to be placed.
