SOUTH AUSTRALIAN LOCAL GOVERNMENT GRANTS COMMISSION
The South Australian Local Government Grants Commission is a statutory authority responsible for advising the Minister for Local Government on the distribution of Commonwealth Financial Assistance Grants (FA Grants) to local governing authorities in South Australia.
FA Grants are untied and decisions on their expenditure are the responsibility of individual councils, in accordance with community priorities.
For 2023-24, a sum of $203.27million has been allocated to 74 councils/communities in the State.
The Commission does not provide funds for specific projects
Grants are provided under the Commonwealth Local Government (Financial Assistance) Act, 1995. Under Section 11 of this Act the Commission is required to hold public hearings in connection with its recommendations. The purpose of these hearings is to provide information about the methodology that the Commission uses to make its grant recommendations and provide the opportunity for Elected Members and members of the public to provide feedback to the Commission.
The Commission will be visiting Berri Barmera Council at 5 Riverview Drive, Berri from 4:00pm - 5:30pm on Thursday 12 October 2023, to hold discussions with elected members and staff, and with any members of the public in attendance at the hearing.
Persons wishing to attend this public hearing are asked to register their interest by 5:00 pm, Monday 9 October 2023 and provide either a written submission or an indication of the issues they wish to raise.
